Common cleaning methods for fume hoods and laboratory benches

  Laboratory equipment has a pivotal low position in the laboratory, which mainly includes fume hoods, laboratory benches, test benches, medicine cabinets, etc. In addition to choosing the correct laboratory furniture, reasonable use and proper cleaning and maintenance also extend the laboratory. For the service life of furniture, let’s take a look at the common cleaning methods for fume hoods and test benches. 

  1. Fume hood:

  1. During the experiment, the experimental device that produces harmful substances should be placed in a place where the operation port of the cabinet in the fume hood is larger than 150mm to prevent the overflow of harmful substances;  

  2, the experimental device of the fume hood should not block the exhaust slit;  

  3. After the experiment, the fan should not be turned off immediately, it must be turned off after 3~5 minutes;  

  4. The fume hood should not be used as a storage cabinet;  

  5. The inside of the fume hood should always be kept clean and airtight, and it should be cleaned and cleaned regularly and thoroughly. If it is damaged, it must be repaired in time;  

  6. Ventilators, air ducts and related accessories should be overhauled regularly;

  7. The fume hood must be measured and adjusted at regular intervals; make the fume hood run under the design conditions;  

  8. The temperature in the fume hood, such as a large wattage electric stove, should be cushioned, and it should not be stored for a long time, so as not to affect the use of the fume hood.

  Second, the test bench, the common test bench is divided into physical and chemical board and epoxy resin board, and its maintenance should be carried out according to different materials;

  The physical and chemical board of the experimental bench:

  1. Do not place this material in an environment where the temperature exceeds 135 degrees for a long time. 

  2. Do not expose this material to open flames, molten metal, metal sparks, or only sunlight, nor can it be used as a cutting surface. 

  3. The flame of coal gas lamp or alcohol lamp will damage the surface of this product, so alcohol lamp or coal gas lamp must be used on a tripod.

  4. The surface of the physical and chemical board is recommended to be cleaned with warm water, acetone or mild detergent. You can choose a detergent for washing hands or dishes. Do not use detergents with abrasives or strong acids to avoid damage to the surface. For stubborn stains , You can drop hypooxygen acid on the surface of the contaminated physical and chemical board and then wash it with water.

  Test bench epoxy resin board:  

  1. The most common method is to clean the countertop with 70% ethanol before and after work. 

  2. If you just remove the dirt on the surface, use a damp cloth; if the dirt is difficult to wipe, it is recommended to use household cleaners, but not abrasive cleaners or waxing. 

  3. Oily scratches caused by metal, rubber and similar objects can be wiped with a cloth dipped in naphtha or solvent. 

  4. Use paper towels or clean cloths to clean and polish regularly, or use bright oil for cleaning and brightening. 

  5. If you want to restore the original luster of the countertop, wipe the surface with a cloth dipped in oil, and then wipe it with a dry cloth.
